How to Save a Relationship: Critical lessons
If you are at a point where you are looking for answers to the dreaded question: how to save a relationship, consider what Brooke Davis of One Tree Hill said, “How many moments in life could you look back and think: That’s when it all changed”? It sums up the idea that when things change between you and your partner, there’s really a small chance of saving a relationship from falling apart. You can’t fix a relationship alone; it takes two people to make it work.
What often goes unsaid is that people don’t change because they want to. Sometimes, they change because they want to rebel against the person they love. It’s a way of saying “I’m not happy with you anymore. I want out.” Sad, but nonetheless very true.
You break up because you want to fix yourself, but in reality, it’s just an excuse to getting out of your relationship. When you’re not happy anymore, why would you stay? Unless there’s still that glimmer of hope that things between you and your spouse can be fixed. Are you still happy together, or only for the moment?
As one-half of the relationship, you want to do whatever it takes to save it. You just don’t go into a relationship and then easily give up, just because things are not okay. There are some things that you need to understand and know that “in the face of true love: you can’t just give up even if the object of your affection begs you to”.
When things between you and your partner get tough, try to do something new, for a change. Maybe both of you are just stuck in the rut, and you need something to bring back the laughter from your early years. These are some of the things that you need to try:
- Have a couple’s night out with your friends
- Book a weekend getaway
- Try a new sport or hobby together
- Try out new places everyday, even if just within the city
- Go back to the things you love as a couple (first movie, favorite restaurant) and rekindle the spark
If it doesn’t seem enough, you can both resort to couple’s counselling.
These are just some of the ways to fix a relationship. In the end though, it all depends on your love and determination to stay with each other. The most effective way on how to save a relationship is by knowing you still love each other and making every effort to show it.
